Chen & Chang Co-hosted Conference Titled “Winning Tips for Your First International Arbitration” During the 2024 Taiwan Arbitration Week

On 1 November 2024, Chen & Chang had the honor of co-hosting a conference titled “Winning Tips for Your First International Arbitration.” The event was organized in collaboration with the Chinese Arbitration Association, Taipei, the ADR Committee of the Taiwan Bar Association (“TWBA”), and the Taiwan Chapter of the Ciarb EAB (“Taiwan Chapter”). The event was also supported by King & Spalding (Singapore) LLP. The conference drew nearly 60 attendees, who enthusiastically attended in person despite the passage of Typhoon Kong-rey on the previous day. This conference has been accredited for continuing professional development hours under the “Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Law” specialty by the Attorneys Academy of TWBA.

This conference was moderated by our Managing Partner Helena Chen C.Arb FCIArb PhD and our Partner Alison Chang FCIArb. The distinguished panel of speakers included local and international legal experts: Elodie Dulac FCIArb at King & Spalding, Jonathan Lim at WilmerHale, Hock Keng Chan C.Arb FCIArb at WongPartnership, Kian Heong Hew at Rajah & Tann, Leo Seewald, Chair of New Green Power and Former President and Former Chairperson of the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan and Viola Lin, Head of Legal APAC of Ørsted. The conference was structured into two sessions. The first session addressed factors to be taken into consideration when drafting a dispute resolution clause and choosing governing law. The second session focused on strategies for handling an imminent arbitration and providing winning tips at the early stage of an arbitration. Both external counsel and in-house counsel shared insights from their experiences and provided the attendees with genuine and diverse practical perspectives.

Under Helena and Alison's skillful moderation, the conference featured lively interactions, with attendees engaged actively with the speakers during the Q&A session. Based on the feedback from the attendees, the conference was a resounding success.

At the closing ceremony of 2024 Taiwan Arbitration Week, Vincent Tsai, Secretary General of TWBA, acknowledged the outstanding contributions of the ADR Committee of TWBA. His vibrant and humorous closing remarks provided a fitting end to this grand Week.
