On 14 October 2023, we collaborated with the Taiwan Chapter of the CIArb East Asia Branch, the ADR Committee of the Taiwan Bar Association, Soochow University School of Law and Dentons Link Legal to successfully host the first seminar, "Legal Guide for Taiwanese Investors in India," as part of the "Series Talk on Comparative Legal System Studies. " A special recognition goes to Dr. Wan-Chun Wendy Ho, Assistant Professor of Soochow University School of Law, for her insightful opening speech and to our moderator, Alison Chang FCIArb from Chen & Chang, Attorneys-at-Law for her skillful hosting.
The seminar featured an engaging presentation by Mr Santosh Pai, qualified in both India and England and Wales. He provided a concise overview of India's legal system and government structure, focusing on four key areas of concern for Taiwanese enterprises: Company Law, Contract Law, Foreign Investment Regulations, and Labor Law. Mr Pai shared legal principles and practical details to assist Taiwanese legal practitioners in navigating the legal requirements and procedures related to foreign investment in India more efficiently with a foundational understanding. Mr Pai also introduced dispute resolution mechanisms available for foreign-related disputes, including ad hoc arbitration and prominent arbitration institutions.
The seminar attracted nearly a hundred participants. The second seminar of the “Series Talk on Comparative Legal System Studies” will take place from 14:00 to 16:30 on 25 November 2023 (Saturday). Please stay tuned for more details.
